I went apple picking last weekend and have always wanted to make homemade applesauce. This was incredibly easy to make very flavorful applesauce. I added maple syrup and molasses for extra flavor, which caused a darker color. This is great cold for breakfast or warm over pork chops.
Ingredients:
6 pounds apples (about 12 large), thinly sliced
1 cup apple cider
1 lemon, juiced
1/3 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons maple syrup
2 teaspoons molasses
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon allspice
Preparation:
1. Combine all ingredients in a stock pot. Simmer over medium heat for 25 minutes.
2. Puree mixture in a food processor until smooth.
3. Refrigerate in an airtight container. Eat cold or heat before using.
