French Toast is one of my absolute favorite breakfast foods. The key is to use really, really fresh bread. I love to use the liqueurs in the batter. It adds a really unique flavor to the French Toast. To make gluten free, omit the Grand Marnier and substitute gluten free bread.
Ingredients:
4 slices Challah Bread (as fresh as possible)
2 eggs
1 tablespoon Rum Chata
1/2 teaspoon Grand Marnier
1 teaspoon orange peel
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
Garnish:
whipped cream
maple syrup
fresh berries: raspberries, blackberries, strawberries
Preparation:
1. Whisk together eggs, Rum Chata, Grand Marnier, and spices.
2. Dredge bread in batter and place on hot griddle (or in a hot skillet).
3. Cook until bread gets crispy, flipping once, for about 3 minutes per side.
4. Remove from heat and garnish with whipped cream, maple syrup, and fresh berries.
