This was one of those Tasty videos that I just couldn't pass up. I was visiting my sister, so we went to the gluten free heaven that is Wegmans to get sheets of puff pastry. The gluten free version doesn't rise as well and isn't quite as flaky, but it still tastes pretty good. I'll be keeping this recipe in the back of my head for brunch the next time I host friends. It's very easy and looks like a lot more effort when into them than was actually required. We used GeeFree gluten free puff pasty and next time we will roll out the dough a little thinner, but this worked very well gluten free.
Ingredients:
1 sheet puff pastry, defrosted and at room temperature (use gluten free puff pastry to make gluten free)
3 ounces cream cheese, softened
2 tablespoon sugar
1/8 teaspoon vanilla
1/8 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Prepartion:
1. Cut sheet of puff pastry in half lengthwise.
2. Make 2 inch cuts up each side at a slight angle on each sheet of pastry.
3. Using a mixer, blend together cream cheese, sugar and vanilla.
4. Split cream cheese mixture between puff pastry. Spoon into the middle where cuts have not been made. Sprinkle half of chocolate chips in each puff pastry on top of the cream cheese.
5. Alternating sides, layer pieces of puff pastry into a braided design.
6. Bake at 400 degrees for 12-15 minutes, until pastry rises and starts to brown.
7. Dust with powdered sugar and garnish with berries.
